In the midst of the global economic slowdown, the performance of car exports from Indonesia is still recording good results. Based on data from the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo), exports of vehicles made in Indonesia in 2023 will reach 505,134 units. This figure rose 6.7% compared to the previous year which reached 473,602 units.
“We hope that this year’s export figures can reach 500,000 units or even reach 1 million units,” said Gaikindo General Secretary Kukuh Kumara in a discussion with the Indonesian Automotive Journalists Forum (Forwot) in Jakarta, reported by Antara, Tuesday (16/1/2024).
To support increased exports, Kukuh encourages automotive manufacturers to start exploring new countries as export destinations, such as Australia.
According to Kukuh, several Gaikindo members plan to start exporting to Australia and new countries this year.
This new export is not only limited to vehicles with conventional engines, but also includes various environmentally friendly vehicles that have been produced domestically. It is hoped that this will strengthen Indonesia’s position in the global automotive market, as well as increase trust in Indonesia.
